The Exchange is a small organization with a huge footprint.

A performing arts organization that brings artists and audiences together to push the form and empower new storytellers, the Exchange is at the forefront of supporting the next generation of the dramatic form.

The Exchange aims to redefine the way new theatre is made in the United States. Work supported and created by the Exchange seeks to discover interactive ways to engage both audiences and artists by bringing new voices and new ideas to American theatre. To that end, The Exchange hopes to embody in name and action, working through a dynamic exchange of ideas and artistic vision.

Beyond producing work, The Exchange supports the best voices in the theatrical form, with bold initiatives, such as the Kesselring Fellowship – a prestigious playwright’s grant, and the Catskill residency program The Orchard Project. Our multi-arts partnerships with organizations like the Catskill Mountain Foundation, the National Arts Club and the Exchange Network help to create a new and broad community of theatre makers, providing a nexus for the public exploration of ideas and cultivation of new audiences.
