About the Orchard Project

The Orchard Project is a summer incubator for world class and cutting edge theatre and dance in upstate New York, operated by the Exchange at the Catskill Mountain Foundation.

By providing much needed resources of time and space to today’s most influential theatre and dance companies, the Orchard Project has quickly become a foremost center of development for company sponsored artists to experiment and explore new ideas, develop their next great work, and collaborate with other professionals.

Companies and artists are supported through overlapping residencies during which time they are provided with free rehearsal space, room and board. Throughout the residencies, open rehearsals invite residents of Hunter and surrounding towns to play an active role in development of new works. Participants range from Tony® award winners to emerging “on-the-cusp” companies.
